WOVEN AND SEWN AMULETS
Making these woven and sewn amulets that combine old metal zippers, cloth beads, charms and buttons from my collection is a form of meditation. Working on these small pieces with focused attention renews the way that I see how materials can represent the passing of time and of memory. The idea of intense ornamentation as protection is an age old idea. As I learn more about talismans and amulets I begin to comprehend the primitive intuitive need that we all have to ask the universe for protection and the sheltering of our beloveds.
